JWGC 2015 – Closing Ceremony

Sunday, December 13 was the closing ceremony of the Junior World Gliding Championships. The ceremony was held in the morning outside the clubhouse. Prizes were offered to the first 10 pilots of each class and medals on the podium. The winner of club class is Tom Arscott, one of the 2 British pilot who completed the last task in a brilliant way along with his partner Sam Roddie as they sneaked out of the gaggle on the first turn area without their German rivals noticing. They caught the gaggle back on the second leg and from there they only had to follow the group to the finish to get the better score. The winner of standard class is the excellent Aussie pilot Mathew Scutter who was very consistant through the whole contest, avoiding big mistakes and taking some good points on every day. Over the Australian Nationals in Lake Keepit and the JWGC in Narromine, I have done 28 flights, did 4 outlandings and logged 120hours in the air. The experience I acquired during these 2 contest is priceless. I cannot name here all of those who supported me, but I am very grateful to everyone’s input in the realization of this project. This was my last Junior Worlds as I am now 25 years old, which is the age limit to be a junior. I hope I can help in training the next Canadian junior pilots and maybe accompany them as a coach and team captain to the next Junior Worlds in 2017 that will be hosted in Lithuania.

Dimanche 13 décembre a eu lieu la cérémonie de fermeture des Championnats du Monde Junior de Vol à Voile. La cérémonie a eu lieu à l’extérieur du clubhouse. Des prix ont été remis aux 10 premiers pilotes de chaque classe et des médailles aux 3 premiers. Le gagnant de la classe club est Tom Arscott, un des deux pilotes anglais. Il a complété le dernier circuit d’une manière brillante en compagnie de son coéquipier Sam Roddie alors qu’ils se sont échappé du groupe de planeur dans le premier secteur de virage à l’insu de leurs compétiteurs allemands. Ils ont rattrapé le groupe en chemin vers le deuxième secteur et à partir de là ils n’avaient plus qu’à suivre le groupe jusqu’à l’arrivée pour empocher plus de points que leurs rivaux. Le gagnant de la classe standard est l’excellent pilote australien Mathew Scutter. Il a été très constant tout au long de la compétition, évitant de faire des erreurs majeures et marquant de bons points à tous les jours. Pendant les Championnats Australiens à Lake Keepit et les Championnats Juniors à Narromine j’ai fais 28 vols, 4 atterrissages ‘’aux vaches’’ et accumulé 120heures de vol. L’expérience que j’ai acquise lors de ces deux compétitions est sans prix. Je ne peux pas mentionner ici tous ceux qui mon apporté leur support, mais je remercie tous ceux qui ont contribué à rendre se projet réalisable. C’était mon dernier Championnat Junior, car j’ai 25 ans et c’est l’âge limite pour être un pilote junior. J’espère pouvoir aider à la formation des prochains pilotes juniors au Canada et peut-être pourrais-je apporter ma contribution comme entrainer et chef d’équipe lors des prochains Championnats Juniors en 2017 qui auront lieu en Lituanie.
